Godwin Ako Gunn, a Deputy National Communications Officer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has declared his intention to contest for the party’s National Communications Officer position in December.

Mr Gunn says his bid is backed by more than three decades of service to the party, during which he has held positions at branch, constituency, regional and national levels.

In announcing his ambition, he praised the outgoing communications team led by Sammy Gyamfi, crediting it with improving the party’s media engagement through initiatives such as strategic panel placements and press conferences held at different locations.

He acknowledged Mr Gyamfi and other members of the communications team for their contribution to strengthening the party’s public messaging, despite challenges encountered along the way.

Mr Gunn said his experience had prepared him to lead the next phase of the party’s communications work, with particular attention to building the skills of grassroots members.

He proposed training branch and constituency executives in communication techniques so they can effectively explain and promote the policies and achievements of the NDC-led government.

“Our next phase must see all our Branch and Constituency Executives being trained in the art and science of communication,” he said, adding that local party members were well placed to tell the NDC’s story.

His political experience includes four years as chairman of the Okaikoi North Constituency Finance Committee, 12 years as a branch executive, eight years on the Greater Accra Regional Communication Committee and eight years as Deputy National Communications Officer.

Mr Gunn also expressed appreciation to party leaders, colleagues, family members and friends who supported his political journey.

If elected, he pledged to serve with humility, commitment and what he described as a fearless voice.
