NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbande has dismissed suggestions that the election of Kojo Bamba as the NPP’s First National Vice Chairman could lead to violence against NDC members.

Speaking during a panel discussion on Asempa FM on October 6, 2026, Gbande said the NDC was not intimidated by Bamba, who previously headed the vigilante group Delta Force.

He said NPP members who commit offences would still be arrested, regardless of Bamba’s election, and warned against creating the impression that his elevation gives anyone the licence to engage in violence.

“Some of the NPP members are saying that we can’t arrest them because Bamba was elected. We would arrest them; if you commit an offence, we would arrest you. They are also saying they have brought Bamba to beat NDC members. Who is he coming to beat? Bamba is in the Ashanti Region; he is our boy; he is our little brother,” he said.

“We are past the era of violence. If it is about violence, we would have killed all NPP members by now. We would have ransacked them and beaten them well at the recent by-election, but we didn’t do that,” he added.

Gbande said he was pleased with Bamba’s elevation but maintained that the NDC would respond to any acts of violence.

“The NDC is a formidable party, resolute, and we are on stand-by. We are like tamed dogs because our leader is a gentle soul. So we’ve been tamed, but they should not advance the conversation that we have elected Bamba… he is coming to precipitate violence,” he said.

Gbande added that NPP members found engaging in illegal acts would be arrested and punished in accordance with the law, citing the party’s former Ashanti Regional chairman, who is serving a 20-year prison sentence.
