The family of a 14-year-old student who died less than two weeks after enrolling at Abomosu STEM Senior High School in the Eastern Region is demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.

Daniel Boateng Mintah died on September 30, 2026, just 12 days after leaving home to begin his senior high school education. His family says conflicting accounts of his final hours, questions about medication found among his belongings and concerns about the condition of his body have left them seeking answers.

According to his father, David Mintah, the family received a call on the day of Daniel’s death informing them that the boy was unwell and needed an injection for suspected malaria. His mother, Joyce Mintah, had spoken to him earlier that day.

The family said they were asked to send GH¢50 for the injection and provide his health insurance details. However, their attempts to obtain further updates about his condition reportedly went unanswered for several hours.

At about 3:10 p.m., a caller who identified himself as the school’s headmaster asked the parents to report urgently. They were later directed to Kwabeng Hospital, where they were informed that their son had been brought in dead.

Daniel’s father said a doctor recommended a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.

The family’s concerns deepened after the father allegedly found the boy’s body bleeding when he visited the Tafo mortuary on October 6.

Daniel’s elder sister, Vivian Mintah, has also questioned the presence of psychiatric medication among his belongings returned by the school, saying the family wants to know how the drugs came to be in his possession.

The family is appealing to Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno and Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu to ensure a full investigation. They have also requested that Daniel’s body be transferred to the Police Hospital in Accra to support further examinations.

The circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death remain unclear, and the family is calling for investigators to establish what happened.
