Newly elected NPP Third Vice Chairperson Nana Akomea says he did not expect to finish third in the party’s national executive election.

“I had expected to be first or second, not third.”

Speaking about the result, Nana Akomea said he knew the contest would be difficult but still expected to place higher.

“Yes, it disappointed me a little, but I knew it was going to be tough.”

He said the close results reflected how competitive the race was.

“And when you look at maybe the top four, it’s very close. The gap between myself and Mustapha was just about 80. And then between myself and Nana B was just another 70 or so.”

Nana Akomea, however, said Kojo Bamba’s campaign strategy helped him exceed expectations.

He noted that Bamba had not been given much of a chance, with a poll putting his support at about five or six per cent.

“Now, why I thought it was going to be difficult was that Bamba, whom nobody gave much chance, and the poll that you referred to about him, I think gave him 5% or 6% or something.”

“But you know, Bamba’s message was clever, very clever. His message was different.”

According to Nana Akomea, while several leading candidates focused on their experience and long service to the NPP, Bamba took a different approach.

“Whilst Nana B., myself, Mustapha Hamid, Ahiagbah, and all those people, we had basically the same message that we had served the party faithfully for a long time.”

“Bamba’s message was that these people—they’ve served the party for a long time. I don’t intend to compete with them; what I want to give you is your security. security.”

Nana Akomea said Bamba’s message helped him distinguish himself from the other candidates in the closely contested election.
