Newly elected New Patriotic Party (NPP) Third Vice Chairman Nana Akomea has rejected reports that he negotiated with First Vice Chairman Kojo Fosu Boadu, popularly known as Kojo Bamba, over the outcome of the party’s national executive elections.
The clarification follows speculation surrounding the absence of Mr Akomea and Second Vice Chairman Henry Nana Boakye from the introduction of the newly elected executives at the NPP’s national delegates conference in Kumasi.
Reports had suggested that the two were involved in an arrangement that could have altered the positions secured by the candidates after the election.
Mr Akomea, however, said he had no involvement in any such discussions because he was not present when the votes were counted and tabulated.
“I was not present during the vote counting and tabulation, and so could not have engaged myself in any ‘negotiation’ with Kojo Bamba or anybody else,” he said in a Facebook post on Monday.
He also explained that his absence from the introduction ceremony was unrelated to the election results or any disagreement with Mr Bamba.
According to him, he had left the conference grounds at about 11:30 p.m. and encountered heavy traffic while returning to the stadium.
“I got caught up in traffic on my way back to the stadium, and only reached the conference grounds a few minutes after the introductions had been done,” he said.
Mr Akomea emerged as the NPP’s Third Vice Chairman after polling 2,987 votes. Kojo Bamba secured the First Vice Chairman position with 3,116 votes, while Henry Nana Boakye placed second with 3,061 votes.
The three will serve as part of the party’s new national executive leadership for the next four years.
