Interior Minister Mohammed Mubarak Muntaka has assured the public that allegations of sexual misconduct involving the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), Zakaria Abdulai, will be thoroughly investigated and will not be swept under the carpet.
Speaking before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Mr Muntaka said he had confidence in the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to handle the case professionally and ensure that the law takes its course.
He disclosed that when the matter came to his attention on September 7, he insisted that the investigation be transferred from the Ashanti Region to Police Headquarters in Accra.
Referring to CID Director-General COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, the minister said: “I can vouch with my life, she will not compromise anything on this.”
The case follows allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students at the school. Abdulai has been interdicted by the Ghana Education Service (GES) pending investigations.
The PAC Chairperson, Abena Osei-Asare, called for reforms to ensure that allegations of criminal sexual misconduct in schools are handled through formal criminal investigations rather than being left solely to the GES’s internal disciplinary procedures.
She questioned the effectiveness of existing arrangements and raised concerns about delays in addressing allegations against teachers and school administrators.
The case has drawn renewed public attention following reports of earlier complaints and concerns about how school authorities handled the allegations. Education authorities have also taken steps to facilitate further investigations.
The allegations remain under investigation, and the outcome of the police inquiry is expected to establish the facts and determine any further legal action.
Authorities have maintained that the process must be allowed to proceed in accordance with the law, with accountability determined by the evidence.
