The government will suspend fresh recruitment applications into Ghana’s security services in 2027 as it focuses on clearing the backlog of qualified candidates awaiting enlistment.
Interior Minister Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak announced the decision before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee on Tuesday, October 20, saying it followed instructions from President John Dramani Mahama.
He explained that the recruitment portal would remain closed next year to allow the security services to accommodate applicants who had completed the selection process successfully but could not proceed to training because of limited spaces.
“Next year, there will be no new applicants. We are not going to open the portal based on the President’s instructions. We are not going to open the portal for fresh applications,” he said.
According to the minister, recruitment in 2027 will focus on candidates who met all the requirements but were left out because the available training capacity could not accommodate them.
“Those who have already applied, gone through and passed the process and qualified to have gone for training but space didn’t allow are the ones we will pick,” he added.
Muntaka said the government would continue selecting eligible applicants from the existing list until the backlog had been exhausted.
“We will keep picking from the list until we exhaust it before another application will be allowed,” he stated.
The decision means prospective applicants will have to wait until the existing pool of qualified candidates has been considered before new applications can be accepted.
