Drivers operating at the Sofoline terminal in Kumasi have warned of possible confrontation if authorities proceed with plans to remove them from an office they have occupied at the facility.
The drivers say they are opposed to an eviction order affecting their office and have called on the relevant authorities to engage them before any action is taken.
According to reports, the dispute centres on an office used by the drivers’ union at the Sofoline terminal, with the drivers insisting that they have a legitimate basis to remain at the facility.
They have reportedly expressed frustration over what they consider an attempt to remove them without adequate consultation.
The drivers have warned that forcing them out could create tensions at the busy transport terminal, where several driver unions operate.
Their concerns come amid previous disputes over the management and use of the Sofoline terminal. In August 2025, tensions at the facility escalated after a group of individuals attempted to take over its management, prompting intervention from the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly and security officials.
The terminal has also been the subject of engagement between the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly and transport unions over issues including sanitation, traffic management and other operational concerns.
The latest dispute has raised concerns about the possibility of another confrontation if the eviction is carried out without an agreement.
The drivers are therefore calling for dialogue to resolve the matter and prevent a situation that could disrupt transport services and create tension among drivers, passengers and authorities.
