Three people, including a woman, have been arrested after drones were allegedly flown over the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) in Accra without authorisation.
The incident occurred on Thursday, October 1, as heightened security surrounded the EOCO premises where Manhyia South MP Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah had appeared to answer questions in an ongoing investigation.
According to reports, the drones remained over the facility for several minutes before EOCO officials pursued those operating them and arrested the three individuals.
The arrests came against the backdrop of increased attention on the MP, who reported himself to EOCO earlier in the day accompanied by his lawyer, Samuel Atta Akyea, and other Members of Parliament. His appearance followed an Accra High Court order authorising his arrest after EOCO said previous efforts to secure his attendance had failed.
The court also authorised EOCO to search for and seize documents considered relevant to the investigation.
The probe concerns alleged unauthorised financial transactions involving SIC Life Savings and Loans Company Limited, with investigators examining allegations including financial loss, dissipation of public funds and possible money laundering. The allegations have not been established in court.
Baffour Awuah has disputed EOCO's account that he ignored invitations to assist with the investigation. He has maintained that the initial invitation was directed to his former law firm and said a representative subsequently appeared before investigators on three occasions and submitted information, including a written statement.
