Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that the government has paid more than GH¢4.4 billion to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) towards settling Second-Tier Pension obligations.
He said the payments were intended to safeguard workers’ pension benefits and demonstrate the government’s commitment to responsible public financial management.
“Government has paid over GH¢4.4 billion to SSNIT for Second-Tier Pension obligations,” Dr Forson stated.
“This helps protect workers’ pensions and shows our commitment to managing public money responsibly and meeting our obligations,” he added.
The announcement follows an earlier disclosure by the minister that the government had released GH¢24.8 billion to statutory funds since January 2026.
According to Dr Forson, those funds were paid on time and in full to support key sectors, including education, healthcare, road infrastructure and local development.
He said timely disbursement ensures that statutory funds have the resources required to deliver essential services to Ghanaians.
The payments form part of the government’s stated efforts to meet its financial obligations while supporting public services and protecting workers’ retirement benefits.
