The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has restored electricity to some parts of Accra following a fire at the Mallam Substation, with efforts underway to reconnect the remaining affected communities.
In a statement, GRIDCo said a fault at the facility triggered a fire involving one of its transformers at 2:36 a.m. on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, disrupting power supply to parts of the capital.
The Ghana National Fire Service responded to the incident and successfully contained and extinguished the fire.
GRIDCo said its engineers are working to restore electricity to all affected areas as quickly as possible. The company has also begun arrangements to replace the damaged transformer.
“Power supply has been restored to parts of the affected areas, while efforts continue to restore supply to the remaining areas as quickly as possible,” the statement said.
The company added that investigations had commenced to establish the exact cause of the fault.
GRIDCo apologised to affected customers for the disruption and thanked them and other stakeholders for their patience and understanding.
It said further updates on the restoration process would be provided as work progresses.
