Fifteen men have been arrested over alleged illegal sand-winning activities along the Sewua-Donyina-Appiadu stretch of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway project in the Ashanti Region.
The arrests were made on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, during an intelligence-led operation by National Security personnel following concerns that the activities were interfering with construction works and damaging sections of the road.
Authorities also impounded six vehicles, including trucks and a wheel loader, as part of efforts to prevent further disruption to the project.
Assistant Liaison Officer Ivan Bilson Yeboah said the suspects had been transported to National Security headquarters in Accra for further investigations.
He explained that the alleged sand-winning activities posed a threat to the progress of the expressway project and could undermine the condition of sections of the road.
Yeboah said National Security would continue to take action against activities that threaten major government infrastructure projects in the region.
He warned that anyone found culpable after investigations would face the full rigours of the law, adding that the operation was also intended to discourage others from engaging in similar activities.
The arrests form part of efforts to prevent unauthorised activities from obstructing the construction of the Accra-Kumasi Expressway.
Further details about the suspects and whether specific charges have been filed were not available at the time of reporting.
