The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended its Amasaman Communications officer, Daniel Norety, from media appearances and public engagements following remarks he made during a discussion on the alleged sexual abuse case involving the headmaster of Obuasi SHTS.
In a statement dated October 22, 2026, the party’s National Communication Bureau said it was concerned by comments made by Norety during a televised discussion on the allegations against the school’s headmaster, Zakaria Abdulai.
Norety reportedly questioned why rape was being treated as an unusual occurrence and asked, “Which man hasn't raped a lady before?”
The NDC condemned the remarks, describing them as comments that trivialised allegations of sexual abuse and undermined the seriousness with which such matters should be treated.
The party reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse and all forms of sexual exploitation, particularly where the safety, dignity and welfare of children are concerned.
The statement also acknowledged an apology issued by Norety but said public commentary on sexual abuse allegations must be guided by responsibility, sensitivity and respect for due process.
“Such matters must not be treated lightly or reduced to partisan debate,” the statement said.
As a result, the party has suspended Norety from all media appearances and public engagements in its name, with immediate effect and until further notice.
The NDC said it remained committed to protecting women and children, promoting accountability and ensuring that allegations of sexual abuse are handled with the seriousness they deserve and in accordance with the law.
