Some aggrieved National Democratic Congress (NDC) members in Nkwanta North in the Oti Region have threatened to disrupt the party’s upcoming constituency elections if organisers proceed despite an alleged court injunction.
The group claims the Dambai High Court has halted the elections over alleged irregularities in the party’s voter register.
According to the aggrieved members, elections were not held in more than 70 polling stations, while the register allegedly includes names of people who are not party members.
The group’s convenor, Prosper Gakpe, said a court bailiff had served the Electoral Commission, security agencies and other relevant authorities with the injunction.
He urged party officials to respect the court’s directive, warning that proceeding with the elections could heighten tensions in the constituency.
However, Nkwanta North NDC Constituency Chairman and District Chief Executive Isaiah Dordoe said he had not received any court injunction.
He said he had only seen a document purported to be the injunction circulating on social media, adding that preparations for the elections had been completed.
Mr Dordoe maintained that the elections would go ahead as scheduled despite the objections raised by the aggrieved members.
