National Democratic Congress (NDC) Deputy National Director of Elections and IT, Rashid Tanko-Computer, has accused the New Patriotic Party (NPP) of using the 2026 FIFA World Cup visa scandal to divert attention from its recent national conference.
Speaking on Good Morning Ghana on Metro TV, Tanko-Computer described the NPP’s national conference as a poor outing and questioned why the party had held a press conference on the visa issue while concerns surrounding its internal affairs remained unresolved.
“This press conference was meant to cover up what happened on Saturday. I can tell you that conference was completely needless,” he said.
He argued that the NPP should be addressing issues arising from the conference, particularly those concerning its executives, instead of shifting public attention to the visa scandal.
According to Tanko-Computer, the timing of the press conference suggested that the party was trying to move the conversation away from its internal challenges.
He also claimed that the NPP’s frequent press conferences reflected deeper problems within the party.
“They have made their position very clear that it is only press conferences that will save them because the party is sinking. There are a lot of problems in the party,” he said.
Tanko-Computer further questioned the need for the NPP to hold a press conference on the visa scandal while investigations into the matter were ongoing.
His comments come amid political exchanges between the NDC and NPP over allegations surrounding arrangements for Ghanaians seeking to travel to the United States for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
