Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has pledged to rebuild the economy around La Pleasure Beach and issue leases to businesses affected by the demolition of structures at the site.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Dr Bawumia said La Beach was an important economic, social and tourism centre that provided livelihoods for thousands of people, particularly young people.
“We will rebuild the beach economy and issue leases to each business,” he said.
His proposed redevelopment plan includes redesigning the beach area to meet appropriate standards while supporting operators to manage their businesses.
He also said arrangements would allow Labadi Beach Hotel and other major operators to coexist with smaller businesses that contribute to what he described as the beach ecosystem.
“We will secure the space for Labadi Beach Hotel and others and allow them to coexist with smaller businesses who together create the beach ecosystem,” he stated.
Dr Bawumia said La Beach had hosted international events and played a role in Ghana’s tourism promotion, including activities associated with the Year of Return during the previous NPP administration.
He also pledged to engage the owners of Laboma Beach to resolve outstanding issues, help the business comply with the law and address concerns relating to the lagoon, flooding and the environment.
The former Vice President criticised Friday’s demolition, particularly the destruction of movable assets which, he said, business owners could have removed.
“I am committed to saving the thousands of jobs that the beach economy supports and to improve them,” he stated.
The demolition on Friday, October 2, affected several structures and businesses around the La Beach area, including La Pleasure Beach and Polo Beach Club.
