Vice President of IMANI Africa, Kofi Bentil, has expressed strong admiration for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s response to the demolition of structures at La Pleasure Beach, saying he looks forward to seeing the former Vice President become President of Ghana.

Bentil made the comment after Dr. Bawumia condemned the demolition and outlined his vision to rebuild and revive the economic activities around the beach if he is elected President.

“This is how leaders think, how do we develop, instead of destroy! And this is how leaders act, to project a great future and commit to make it happen,” Bentil stated.

He followed up with a clear expression of his anticipation: “I can’t wait for Dr. Bawumia to be President.”

In his statement, Dr. Bawumia criticised the demolition of the beachfront structures and argued that the area should be developed in a way that protects its economic potential while creating opportunities for businesses and young people.

He pledged that a government led by him would rebuild the La Beach economy, regularise businesses through appropriate leases and redesign the area to meet modern standards.

Dr. Bawumia also said his administration would engage relevant stakeholders, including major establishments operating in the area, while addressing environmental concerns such as the lagoon and flooding.

The demolition at La Pleasure Beach has generated significant public discussion, particularly over its impact on businesses, workers and other people whose livelihoods depend on economic activities around the beach.

For Bentil, however, Dr. Bawumia’s response represents a different approach to leadership—one centred on thinking beyond the immediate situation and developing a long-term vision for the area.

His comments have since drawn attention to the former Vice President’s pledge to restore and transform the La Beach economic ecosystem if given the opportunity to lead the country.
