The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) says beneficiary recruitment has increased by 566.67% since Malik Basintale became its Chief Executive Officer, as the agency seeks to expand employment opportunities for young Ghanaians.

Speaking at the Accountability Series on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Basintale said the agency had recorded 100,628 beneficiaries as of September 30, representing 75.7% of its annual target.

He attributed the increase to an expansion in the number of young people accessing employment opportunities through the agency, stressing that the figures represented livelihoods and opportunities for young people to contribute to national development.

“I’m particularly pleased to announce that since assuming office, we have increased beneficial recruitment by 566.67% of the number we met. This represents a remarkable expansion in the number of young Ghanaians accessing employment opportunities through the agency,” he said.

On efforts to improve job security, Basintale said the agency had secured retention agreements with security agencies to ensure that at least 60% of beneficiaries would be absorbed into permanent positions after completing their two-year engagement.

He said the arrangement was intended to make youth employment programmes a pathway to sustainable careers rather than a temporary response to unemployment.

The YEA chief executive also highlighted the agency’s focus on paying allowances on time. While acknowledging that challenges remained, he said predictable remuneration was important to beneficiaries.
