Asante Akyem North MP Ohene Kwame Frimpong, popularly known as OK Frimpong, remains in custody in the Netherlands after two attempts to secure his release on bail were rejected by Dutch authorities.

Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor said the lawmaker was awaiting an extradition hearing scheduled for November 18, 2026, as his legal team continues to challenge the US request for his extradition.

Speaking at a Leaders’ Media Briefing on Tuesday, November 3, ahead of Parliament’s resumption, the South Dayi MP said the two bail applications filed on behalf of Frimpong had been unsuccessful.

“Regarding our colleague OK Frimpong, the update is that we have failed to secure bail for him in respect of the two applications that were brought before the court on the tribunal, and so he is still in Amsterdam in custody,” he said.

Dafeamekpor said the substantive extradition hearing was expected to take place on November 18, barring any unforeseen circumstances. He appealed to the public to remember the MP and his legal team in their prayers, expressing hope that the proceedings would allow Frimpong to return to Ghana.

He also dismissed reports that the MP had already been transferred to the United States, stressing that he remained in the Netherlands and was still going through the judicial process.

“ So he is not being taken to the US as it has been alleged. No, he is still going through the rigours of the judicial process, and if it ends, there is a verdict,” he said.

Frimpong was arrested at Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport on May 10, 2026, after arriving from Ghana. The detention is linked to a US extradition request involving allegations of romance scams, money laundering and other financial crimes.

The November 18 hearing is expected to determine the next stage of the proceedings on the US extradition request. Dafeamekpor said Parliament and the legal team would update the public once the court delivered its decision.
