The Black Stars’ 4–2 defeat to The Gambia at the Accra Sports Stadium has triggered renewed criticism of the leadership of Ghana football, with broadcaster Kevin Taylor directing a strong warning at Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams.
Ghana appeared to be in control after taking a 2–0 lead through Ernest Nuamah and Felix Afena-Gyan. However, The Gambia fought back to level the score before halftime and eventually completed a remarkable comeback to win 4–2.
The defeat leaves Ghana without a point from its opening two matches in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, after the Black Stars had earlier lost 2–0 to Côte d’Ivoire. Ghana are consequently at the bottom of Group C after two rounds of matches.
It is against this backdrop that Kevin Taylor has turned his attention to Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku and the Sports Minister.
Taylor is warning Kofi Adams that if Kurt Okraku does not resign this week, the Sports Minister himself will lose his job. His comments place pressure on the Sports Ministry to take action over the current state of Ghana football following the Black Stars’ latest setback.
The defeat has already generated strong reactions among supporters. Reports also indicate that an angry fan attempted to confront Kurt Okraku following the match, reflecting the frustration surrounding the team's performance.
Meanwhile, Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has acknowledged that the result would naturally raise questions about his position. He said the decision on whether he remains coach ultimately rests with the Ghana Football Association.
With Ghana's AFCON qualification campaign now under serious pressure, attention is increasingly turning to the leadership of Ghana football and whether changes will be demanded following the disappointing start.
