NDC operative James Agbey has warned that the party risks losing grassroots support if the government fails to address the concerns of activists who helped secure its victory in the 2024 general elections.
In a statement issued on October 16, 2026, Agbey urged government appointees to act on the concerns of party loyalists, many of whom he said were facing unemployment, financial hardship, and frustration nearly two years into the NDC administration.
He expressed disappointment with what he described as the neglect of activists who remained committed to the party during its time in opposition.
“When something is wrong, it is wrong. And as a long-standing political operative, I will say clearly: this does not look good on us as a party and government,” he stated.
Agbey argued that the party’s grassroots base was becoming increasingly dissatisfied because supporters who worked to protect the NDC’s electoral interests in 2024 had not received meaningful opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
“Today, our party is in government, but the very people who worked tirelessly to stop the NPP rigging machinery have been left to rot and die in hunger,” he said.
He further alleged that some activists who had secured positions were operating from abandoned offices and relying on occasional handouts to remain involved in party activities.
Agbey also accused some government appointees of favouring relatives and close associates over party members who contributed to the NDC’s electoral victory.
“The feeling out there at the base is that ‘we have been used and dumped’,” he said.
He maintained that grassroots supporters were seeking sustainable opportunities to earn a living rather than temporary financial assistance.
“All that these party activists are asking for is opportunities to be able to fend for themselves,” he stated.
Agbey called for practical measures to address their concerns, warning that continued inaction could deepen resentment and affect the party’s prospects in future elections.
“To imply that these party activists can be used and dumped is a clear indicator of amateurish political judgment,” he said.
He added, “More appropriately, I call for urgent action, or we will have ourselves to blame come the electioneering season.”
