American actress Selma Blair has been issued a federal summons over allegations that she assaulted flight attendants aboard a Delta Air Lines flight from Los Angeles to New York.
Blair, 54, was taken into custody late Sunday, October 11, after the aircraft arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York. Authorities said two flight attendants reported injuries following the incident. One was taken to a hospital for further evaluation.
According to the Associated Press, the summons accuses Blair of assault within the special maritime and territorial jurisdiction of the United States. The case is expected to be handled by the federal court’s petty violations court in Brooklyn, although a hearing date had not been announced as of Monday, October 12.
Blair’s representative said the actress experienced a medical emergency that led to the alleged conduct. She received medical attention after the plane landed and was reported to be in stable condition.
The FBI is investigating the incident. Delta Air Lines said it has zero tolerance for unruly or unlawful behaviour, emphasising that the safety of passengers and crew remains its priority.
Blair is widely recognised for her roles in films including Cruel Intentions, Legally Blonde and Hellboy. She has also become an advocate for disability awareness since publicly revealing her multiple sclerosis diagnosis in 2018.
The actress was involved in another widely reported in-flight incident in 2016. She later apologised, explaining that mixing alcohol with medication had caused her to black out.
The investigation into Sunday’s incident remains ongoing, and the allegations have not been established in court.
