President John Dramani Mahama has presented relief items to residents affected by recent floods in Hohoe.
The items were presented on Friday, October 2, when the President visited Hohoe to assess the damage and sympathise with affected residents.
The floods damaged more than 400 homes and properties in parts of the municipality and displaced several residents.
As part of the support for affected households, businessman Ibrahim Mahama, the President’s brother, donated 5,000 bags of Dzata Cement to help residents whose homes were destroyed or collapsed rebuild.
The relief package presented by the Presidency includes rice, gari, mattresses and detergent, among other essential items.
President Mahama said the items were intended to provide immediate relief and tasked the Hohoe Municipal Assembly, the Member of Parliament and the Regional Minister with ensuring their fair distribution.
“These items are from the Presidency. Accept our sympathies. We will leave it in the hands of the MP, MCE and Regional Minister to distribute these items fairly to those who are affected,” he said.
He also assured residents that the government would continue assessing their needs and provide further support as they rebuild their homes and livelihoods.
The floods have prompted calls from affected communities for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
